What is a health committee?
CODESA members trained in citizen monitoring
In each health area, CERC identifies members of the CODESA (health area development committee) and trains them in citizen monitoring: objective observation, ethical data collection, confidentiality and use of HealthCheck.
These members form the area’s health committee. It regularly visits the health facilities in the area, reports problems on HealthCheck and engages with those in charge to resolve them, in cooperation with the health zone.
Their role
What a health committee does
- 1
Monitor
During regular visits, the committee checks the services of each facility in the area: reception, costs, medicines, hygiene, staff.
- 2
Report
Each problem is described on HealthCheck, with supporting photos, without ever naming a patient. CERC verifies it before publication.
- 3
Engage
The committee presents the facts to the facility director and the health authorities so that a correction plan can be agreed together.
- 4
Verify
The committee confirms corrections on site: the problem moves to “Resolved”.
